BIOMECHANICS & ANATOMY
Understanding movement isn’t enough. You need to know how to apply it in training.
Anatomy and biomechanics help us understand why a person moves the way they do. But for a coach, they only become truly valuable when they can be translated into specific training decisions.
What does a specific movement limitation mean for me as a coach?
Which exercise or intervention should I choose?
How do I know whether my decision is working?
These are exactly the questions addressed in the two-day Biomechanics & Anatomy seminar.
You won’t spend two days memorizing anatomy. The seminar is built on solid theoretical foundations, but its goal is to show you how to use anatomy and biomechanics when making decisions in real-world training.
Biomechanics is not the goal. It is a tool for better coaching.

WHO IS THE SEMINAR FOR?
The seminar is designed primarily for personal trainers and strength & conditioning coaches who work with the general population or athletes and want to better understand what they are actually seeing when someone moves.
It is for coaches who ask questions such as:

  • What does this limitation mean for training?
  • Which exercise should I choose in this situation?
  • How should I modify it based on the individual in front of me?
  • How do I know whether my intervention is working?

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN

ANATOMY & BIOMECHANICS
We will establish a common foundation for the rest of the seminar and focus on principles that have direct relevance to coaching practice.
We will cover:

  • key mechanical principles
  • anatomy relevant to strength training
  • individual differences between clients
  • what is worth testing and why
  • how to translate assessment results into training

UPPER BODY BIOMECHANICS
We will explore the relationship between the rib cage, scapula, and arm, and how they work together to influence movement and strength training.
We will cover:

  • structure and function of the shoulder complex
  • the relationship between the scapula and upper-limb movement
  • the most common movement limitations
  • their implications for strength training
  • how to modify exercise selection and execution for the individual

LOWER BODY BIOMECHANICS
For the lower body, we will focus on the relationship between the pelvis, hip, trunk, and lower extremity.
We will cover:

  • structure and function of the hip complex
  • the relationship between the pelvis, hip, and lower extremity
  • structural differences between individuals
  • the gait cycle – why it matters and how to apply it to strength training
  • the most common limitations and how to account for them in strength training

STRENGTH TRAINING
In this section, we will translate theory directly into training practice.
We will cover:

  • principles of strength training from a movement mechanics perspective
  • applying biomechanics to exercise selection
  • modifying setup, range of motion, and position
  • combining exercises within a training session
  • how to determine in practice whether the chosen approach is actually working

The goal is to be able to select the right tool for the right person in the right situation.

LECTURER – MARTIN ITERSKÝ
Martin Iterský is a strength & conditioning coach with more than ten years of experience in professional sports.
He has worked in the Czech Extraliga, the KHL, and with the Czech national ice hockey team, while also dedicating much of his career to the individual preparation of professional athletes.
At DAY 1, he serves as Head of Performance.
Throughout his career, he has worked with HC Sparta Praha, HC Kometa Brno, HC Energie Karlovy Vary, Metallurg Magnitogorsk, and the Czech national ice hockey team.
He currently works individually with professional athletes from the NHL, SHL, Czech and Slovak Extraliga, and national teams, including Karel Vejmelka, Dominik Frodl, and Luboš Horký.
